The Artist
Prateek is a graphic design graduate from Srishti School of Art, Design and Technology. One thing that Srishti ingrained in him were the basics of Graphic Design- colour, typography and layout. The solid foundation course at Srishti gave him an edge as a Graphic Designer as he knew his building blocks all too well. Art, however, was always in his bones. One commendable thing about Prateek is that he kept up his art practice and continued to work on personal projects alongside his academic curriculum.
The Art
When you glance through his work, either on his Instagram Page or on his website, you’ll come across resplendent majestic forms, all billowing with character and colour. On first glance, these appear as merely vibrant forms which arrest your attention with their playful vibe. On a closer look, you’ll see there is a lot more than just playfulness. His work takes from all the things that he likes, be it reading, video games, occult science or horror movies and once you look at his work a little closer, you’ll see hints and traces of each of these things. Furthermore, his art style is never stagnant. It evolves each year and his love for exploring and experimenting sees to that.
The Process
He always keeps an idea book handy, where he jots down his thoughts and scribbles out rough sketches. This forms the base from which his more refined works evolve. The process from here on is organic and completely independent for each artwork. Sometimes a single sketch might be taken forward into an artwork and sometimes, a culmination of two or more will undergo his artistic process and take the form of his final artworks.
The Future
Prateek is currently working on an experimental zine project and a series of large scale typography posters.
