Margaritas by the Sea

Margaritas by the Sea

It was a fantastic time to be in Dubai, with lashings of sunshine, gorgeous temperatures and awe-inspiring sunsets. Atlantis, The Palm is one of the finest resorts on the offshores of Dubai. The Palm is a man-made island which has captured the attention of billions of people around the world because of its spectacular scale and imagination. With over 1300 rooms and some 150 suites, it is ideal for a family holiday thanks to its massive beach as well as the huge water park, Aquaventure, apart from marine experiences, an immense spa, 21 restaurants and bars and more. The team at Atlantis had designed a bucket list of amazing activities that I will be able to talk about for years to come— an interesting mix of marine activity and leisure. Here are three that made it to the top of my list.

The Marine Experience
The Atlantis marine adventure definitely comes on top. The Atlantis offers several marine experiences that take you deep into the miracles of the ocean. I chose to surf, dance and hug the dolphins for I have been fascinated with them since I was a kid. The poignant experience began with an informative introduction to dolphin training and the importance of marine life conservation, before we were guided down to the sandy shores where they introduced us to a Marine Mammal Specialist. The intimate experience lasted about 30 minutes in the water with the porpoise. The marine specialists tell you every little detail about the animal—we got to interact with the beautiful 30-year-old called Alice [Dolphins usually live up to 60 years of age]. We got to enjoy a variety of unforgettable experiences from a kiss and a hug to educational, intimate and playful time with Alice! Be careful when you hold them as they usually weigh a lot; it is best to do it with a partner.

Under Water Yoga
Another very interesting aspect of my trip was the underwater yoga experience at The Lost Chambers Aquarium. More than 65,000 fish and over 250 fish species reside in these extraordinary aquariums. Lit up by the beautiful azure-blue colour of the water, the under water yoga was truly an unparalleled experience. This hour-long early morning session was just the self-reflection that I need. The aquarium made for an amazing setting for a yoga experience, surrounded by the tranquillity of water and the fish floating by. Some general information about these classes—they are held weekly and due to the immense popularity, you’ll need to make a booking in advance to get an available spot. Even our class had a great turnout! The class welcomes people from all fitness levels, whether you’re a beginner or a lifelong yoga practioner.

Serving the Extraordinary
Atlantis, The Palm offers some fantastic dining options, serving something for everyone. Whether it’s enjoying an alfresco lunch or sipping cocktails as the sun sets, there are plenty of great experiences to choose from. For me, the highlight was when we were hosted to some British delicacies at the Bread street Kitchen & Bar which is the work of celebrity chef Gordon Ramson. Much like its London counterpart, the menu here mirrors its signature dishes. Tuck into the incredible dishes such as the famous beef wellington and fantastic fish & chips. Being a vegetarian, I had limited choices but even the non meat wellington was delicious. The pastry was served with sautéed carrots and their signature sauce, but what I devoured the most was the serving of mashed potatoes. They’ll happily serve you an extra portion or two with a smile.
