

BAFTA-nominated Adarsh Gourav, best known for his breakout role in The White Tiger, continues to captivate audiences with his remarkable range and talent. His latest film, Superboys of Malegaon, earned a standing ovation at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival, solidifying his place as one of the most promising actors of his generation. The film holds a special place for Adarsh, resonating deeply with him through its exploration of passion, ambition and the pursuit of dreams against all odds. He tells us more about his quirks, habits and Superboys.
First job you were hired for.
I was hired to sing the chorus of a song that Sukhwinder Singh sang in a film called Black and White, directed by Subhash Ghai.
First memory of acting.
I acted in a play called The Adventures of Don Quixote when I was in the ninth grade.
A film that left a deep impression on you.
I recently saw Blink Twice, which I loved, so it’s left a deep impression on me as of now.
What was it about Superboys of Malegaon that struck a chord with you?
I think the passion of the people, the characters, the will to do something and bring a change, struck a chord.
What would you want your superpower to be if you could be a superhero?
I would want to be part of an ancient civilisation.
What was the most memorable line or dialogue from the film for you?
When Nasir says ‘Kuch mukammal banana hai’.
Describe your character in the film in three word
My character would be described as passionate, ambitious and charming.
If the world were ending in ten minutes, what would you do?
I would go off to sleep.

I run really fast, I climb really well and I don’t know how to float.

One thing acting has changed about you.
It has given me a purpose.
If you were a fly on the wall, whose wall would it be?
If I was a fly on the wall, it would probably be the wall of Mahatma Gandhi—he had a very interesting life.
One question you hate being asked in an interview.
I don’t think there is any question that I hate being asked in an interview. I feel very lucky that people want to interview me.
An occupational hazard.
I don’t get to spend enough time with my family.
Which genre would you like to explore as an actor and why?
I’d love to explore comedy because I love to laugh.
What’s your favourite thing to wear?
Shorts and a cotton t-shirt.
What cheers you up when you are sad?
Funny animal videos.
Which cartoon or historical character do you identify with?
Not necessarily identify with, but I used to love watching Courage the Cowardly Dog.
A film you wish you had been a part of.
Maybe like an epic adventure film or a battle film. Something like Lord of the Rings, Troy or Gladiator.
The one thing desperately lacking in the film industry.
I would say equal treatment.
2025 will be?
Hopefully memorable.

My greatest achievement would probably be to be nominated for the BAFTAs.
