Platform: Jio Cinema
The Day of the Jackal is a cat-and-mouse thriller starring Eddie Redmayne and Lashana Lynch. It has been adapted from the 1971 Frederick Forsyth novel and sets the action in the present day. We see the Jackal (Eddie Redmayne) character trying to take down a big politician which is where the show begins. This piques the interest of MI6 officer named Bianca (Lashana Lynch). As Bianca runs around trying to uncover the Jackal’s identity, the characters operate on parallel tracks, just missing one another time and time again.
Slow Horses Season 4
Platform: Apple TV
One of our favourite seasons of this spy-thriller show is a must watch. Even though the fourth in its turn but the makers finally got it right and is rightfully gaining steam. After the show earned Nine nominations at the Emmys, Slow Horses got elevated to everyone’s lists even after it had been around for a while. Early this year, the creator of the show, Will Smith accepted the trophy for the Best Writing in a Drama Series but little did we know that their new season will be the best ever. For the new viewers, Slow Horses is a Spy series about a bunch of rejected MI5 agents that find themselves in dark and tricky tasks with their mentor (Gary Oldman) leading them. Even though the show is about a bunch of rejects, they more than keep you hooked to the television screen owing to the stellar cast and crisp writing.
Dune Prophecy
Platform: Jio Cinema
In Dune Prophecy, now playing on Jio Cinema, the origins of the mysterious Bene Gesserit sisterhood are explored. It is starry and an intense prequel to the fantasy saga. It is a six-part drama inspired, vaguely controversially, not by Frank Herbert’s 1965 book, Dune, but by a spin-off book co-written by his son Brian in 2012 that provides the Bene Gesserit’s foundation story. The shows stars Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, Mark Stron and Tabu among other well-known faces.
Citadel: Honey Bunny
Platform: Amazon Prime Video
Indian spy series Citadel: Honey Bunny has claimed the top spot as the streamer’s most-watched series worldwide during its launch weekend on Amazon Prime. The series, directed by Raj & DK stars Varun Dhawan and Samantha Prabhu. Set in the 1990s, the spy thriller follows a stuntman and struggling actress who become entangled in espionage. Bad Sisters
Platform: Apple TV
Developed for the small screen by Horgan, Dave Finkel, and Brett, Bad Sisters concerns the Garvey sisters who find themselves in the middle of an insurance investigation when one of their abusive husbands turns up dead. As witty as it was dark and brooding, the debut season was one of the crown jewels of streaming TV in 2022. This obviously called for a renewal, with the main cast returning. Season 2 of Bad Sisters is an entirely different beast. It released very recently where it catches up with the Garvey clan in the aftermath of John Paul's (abusive husband) death, exploring new wrinkles with the tension continuing to escalate.
