Mayur Girrotra's new work is more than just couture, tit is a narrative stitched in silk and steeped in history. Drawing from the quiet elegance of the colonial era, the collection is layered with references to secret societies, salon culture, and the rituals of tea, reimagined through Mayyur’s unmistakable design language. 'To me, couture should always carry drama but it must be lived in. We design garments that feel almost theatrical at first glance, but on closer look, they’re layered with memory and mastery. Always with intention, never excess,' says Mayyur.
Directed and styled by Mayyur Girotra himself, the campaign is a deeply personal vision, where fashion becomes storytelling and every garment holds a whisper of intrigue. 'The seed of collection was sown in my Nani’s courtyard where she was often pouring chai into delicate cups narrating stories of love and politics brewing in the background. The idea behind MG’s Tea House was born from just that. A quiet rebellion draped in nostalgia. I wanted to honour the women who sat at the edges of power but shaped entire movements with their presence.'
Shot in the hushed corridors of heritage havelis and sun-drenched courtyards, Tea House captures a moment in time when conversations over chai sparked rebellion, and style became a silent symbol of resistance. The collection features vintage-inspired detailing, bold textiles, and characters who seem to have stepped out of a period drama — but with a signature Girotra twist. 'It usually begins with a feeling sometimes it’s a visual, sometimes a conversation I can’t shake off. With this one, it was that image of my grandmother, the way she held space. From there, it all flowed the mood, the fabrics, the silhouettes. I build from memory, but I always design for the now.'
MG’s Tea House blurs the line between costume and couture, memory and imagination. It’s not just a campaign; it’s a mood, a movement, a whisper of revolution.
