Rina’s collection took inspiration from the famous story of Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, where boundaries of truth and fiction blur, while imagination can be seen through romance and could convert a fall into beautiful costumes. ‘Eka’ celebrated the start of the new era and life post pandemic with the distinctive touches of the brand for the Summer of 2023. Looking through life’s new lens – the electronic media - the brand’s pixilated motifs of flowers presented a new language in block prints.
Hand-crafted details married with hand-woven textiles further enhance this new language of motifs. Experimenting with an exploration of block prints on hand-woven fabrics like cotton and cotton silk, Kota, linen and blends, innovations in Jamdani are also incorporated into cotton and cotton silk silhouettes. Layers of bright colours brought a celebration of life to the garments on the ramp, along with light-as-air hand-woven textiles that projected pixels into the limelight. The ‘Eka’ silhouettes have always been free and fluid, while gentle layering played a prominent role and brought forth the beauty of the ensembles.

From a bouquet of soft to vibrant colours and patterns that moved from gingham checks to multicoloured ones, as well as delicate stripes; the soft fabrics were ideal for overlays and extreme layering. Smocking, pin tucks, fragile laces and embroidery confirmed the look of the show. Feminine tiers for skirts and dresses, soft summer jackets, pretty peplum blouses, sheer robes, feisty peasant tunics, along with sheer smock dresses completed the variety of ensembles for women. The four men’s wear options matched the mood of the theme with white shirts, easy biker’s jackets with interesting detailing had delicate pastel stripes to highlight them and were all worn with comfy trousers. While the ‘Eka’ label by Rina Singh presented the collection “It’s Only a Dream” and took the audience through several colourful prisms and experiences, the Summer 2023 looks will also allow the buyers to dream up their style statements.
Rina Singh explains,” I fall for beauty and cherish the little nuances that life offers us... if there is a choice to look at reality and face it grimly in the face or weave a fantasy, I choose to do the latter and find solace in beauty and art. Therefore, this season is an ode to the eternal romantics and the creators and the storytellers for giving the world stories we can still hide in.
