For the lesser known, 431-88 is a luxury, ready-to-wear label operating from New Delhi since 2012. Guided by modernity and sensuality, its collections address a global individual who is sexy, confident and free spirited. Each season the label offers up dynamic range of ultra-cool urban wear that seeks to carry the 431-88 individual through their everyday and more formal aspects of their jet-setting life. Casting a fresh lens on traditional Indian wear, the label also explores heritage dressing with a more contemporary twist, ensuring that each season challenges tradition and is always surprising.
Shweta Kapur is the founder and creative director of 431-88. Since launching her label in 2012, Kapur has developed a unique design language that celebrates self expression and an independent spirit through its modern retelling of classical Indian silhouettes, fine tailoring and luxe urban wear.
In 2014, she was invited to make her runway debut by the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI). That spring, her first show for Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WLFW) brought her immediate acclaim for her distinctly strong silhouettes, sexy sportswear and urban chic. Ten collections strong, 431-88 has become a regular on the Indian fashion calendar under Kapur’s creative direction, her work also earning her the Elle Graduates Award for Excellence in Urban Tailoring (2013).
With her inherent sense for what women want, Kapur creates, out of her studio in New Delhi, individualistic pieces that come together to tell a story about modern women—their lives, travels, and stories.
