Shreeji: A Culture Concept Store

Shreeji: A Culture Concept Store

Shreeji, originally opened in 1982 by Sandeep Garg as a humble newsagent and tobacconist in London’s Marylebone, has come a long way since its early days. What began as a small neighborhood shop soon evolved into a highly curated haven for magazine lovers, with a carefully selected range of publications catering to various niche interests. By 2020, Shreeji had undergone its most significant transformation on a collaboration with designer and developer husband-and-wife duo, Gabriel Chipperfield and Laura de Gunzburg. They partnered to launch Shreeji as a "culture concept store"—a unique fusion of commerce, art, and community. The space includes a reading room, a salon, and even an area dedicated to events and exhibitions, making it a place where customers can enjoy everything from the finest coffee, tea, and pastries, to an expanded collection of publications.

Shreeji: A Culture Concept Store

What began as a simple business venture for Sandeep’s brother, who initially saw it as a short-term way to earn a living, has now endured and thrived for nearly four decades. Throughout that time, Sandeep has guided the store through multiple iterations, always staying true to the core idea of offering a diverse, thoughtful selection of reading materials. Shreeji’s ability to blend popular publications with rare, hard-to-find works has set it apart from the competition, offering customers not only what they’re familiar with but also introducing them to new, often underrated gems in the world of print.
